Shelved is a place for readers of all backgrounds to share, discover, and discuss what they love. These guidelines exist to keep that space safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Treat all members with courtesy, regardless of their taste, background, or opinion.
Disagreements about books are welcome. Personal attacks are not.
Do not harass, threaten, bully, or target any individual or group.
Do not post content that degrades or dehumanises people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
Graphic sexual content, nudity, and explicit material are not permitted on public profiles or reviews.
Violent or disturbing content that serves no constructive purpose (including gratuitous gore) is prohibited.
Content that promotes, glorifies, or instructs harmful or illegal activities is not allowed.
Spam, repetitive posts, and unsolicited advertising will be removed.
Reviews must reflect your genuine opinion. Coordinated fake review campaigns are prohibited.
Do not impersonate other members, public figures, or Shelved staff.
Do not misrepresent the content of a book in a way intended to mislead other readers.
Profile pictures and usernames must not contain hateful imagery or slurs.
Do not share another person's private information (address, phone number, email, or financial details) without their explicit consent.
Do not post screenshots of private messages or conversations without permission.
Content involving minors must be handled with the utmost care; sexualising minors in any form results in immediate permanent removal.
Respect copyright: short quotations from a book are fine for discussion; reproducing full chapters is not.
Content that could facilitate real-world harm (including instructions for self-harm, dangerous activities, or weapons) is not allowed.
Content designed to radicalise, recruit for extremist causes, or promote terrorism is prohibited and will be reported to relevant authorities.
Misinformation presented as fact that could cause harm to individuals or communities is not permitted.
If you encounter a member in crisis, encourage them to seek professional help and use the report function rather than engaging negatively.
Violations may result in content removal, a temporary suspension, or a permanent ban depending on severity.
Repeat violations or a pattern of boundary-pushing will result in escalating action.
Severe violations (particularly those involving minors or incitement to violence) result in immediate permanent removal with no warning.
Appeals can be submitted by contacting us directly. We aim to review all appeals within 5 business days.
When in doubt, ask yourself: would this make someone feel unwelcome?
