Do we need your consent?
Under GDPR/ePrivacy-style rules, consent is required for non-essential cookies, but strictly necessary cookies (like our session cookie) and functional storage that only holds a preference you explicitly set (like your theme choice) are generally exempt. Shelved does not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies, so no cookie-consent banner is shown. If that ever changes — for example, if analytics are added in future — this policy and a consent mechanism will be updated first.
Third-party requests
When you view a book page, your browser loads cover images directly from Open Library, AniList, MyAnimeList, or Google Books. These are simple image/API requests, not embedded trackers — but as with any third-party request, the image host can see that your browser requested the file (its standard server log, e.g. your IP address and the image URL). We don't control what those services do with that request.
If you subscribe to Pro, checkout happens on Stripe's own domain, which sets its own cookies under Stripe's privacy policy — Shelved does not control those.
Managing local storage
You can clear theme, accent, and guidelines-acceptance data at any time by clearing your browser's site data for Shelved, or by using private/incognito browsing.
